Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) in-class assessments and (2) final examination. Students are able to (1) communicate mathematical arguments and solutions to problems (2) solve problems using a mathematical approach and logical thinking skills (3) demonstrate mastery of essential techniques used in mathematical problem solving and (4) explain and apply key mathematical concepts and techniques underpinning engineering and science, with an emphasis on fluid mechanics and electromagnetism. This unit develops general theory in electromagnetism and fluid mechanics, both incorporating vector calculus illustrates the theory using applications, for example in communications, consumer electronics, environmental waters and oceanography and introduces practical techniques for solving problems in electromagnetism and fluid mechanics.
